Iceland is incredible year-round, but it depends on what you want to experience. Summer (June–August) offers midnight sun, lush landscapes, puffins, and the most accessible roads. Winter (October–March) brings Northern Lights, ice caves, and dramatic snowy scenery. Our Mini Monthly Guides break down every single month in detail.

We recommend 3–6 months in advance for summer trips, as popular accommodations and tours fill up quickly. For winter travel, 2–3 months is usually sufficient. The earlier the better — especially if you want a Custom Itinerary with Jessica's personalised service.
For the Ring Road and most popular tourist areas, a regular car is fine in summer. In winter, or if you want to explore the Highlands or remote areas, a 4x4 is strongly recommended. Jessica's itineraries always account for the right vehicle type for your route and season.
